Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine what kinds of characteristics are associated with the levels of the perceived life satisfaction of the grandparents who provide care for their grandchildren. This study particularly focuses on the caregiving burden and family structure and whether these factors affect the level of perceived life satisfaction of the grandparents. The analyses rely on the panel data from the Korean Retirement and Income Study (wave 3). Descriptive analysis, analysis of variance, and multi-variate regression analysis are used to identify the influencing factors on 383 grandparents who have provided care for their grandchildren. The results showed that the family structure of grandparent caregivers was a key factor in explaining satisfaction level among grandparents who provide care for children after controlling for the other variables. In addition, socio-economic factors like household income and health status were identified as important factors in explaining the perceived life satisfaction of them.
